DRUFC's 2010 Sucata Rally

The Sucata'eers at Deepings Raft Race

Picture
Once again the cars were out and about turning heads at the Deepings Raft Race on the 8th August, (http://www.deepingsraftrace.co.uk/) We raised another £130 on the day running a "Guess the Registration Date" sweepstake. We asked people to guess the registration date of LCD, who had just passed it's 15th birthday! on the 1st August and was registered in 1995. Well done to Fiona Chestnut who had the only correct guess. A big thanks to everyone who donated on the day we had stiff competition from lots off other charities collecting on the day too but every little helps!

LCD & The HOF at Deepings Beer Festival

Picture
23rd & 24th of July Deepings Rugby Club held the 7th annual Deepings Beer Festival and we were there to raise a little more cash!
The cabs were parked in prime position and we went armed with loads of photos to prove all the work we have done. We had loads of interest and raised a massive £400 with the "Last Beer Standing Sweepstake".
We asked people to guess the name of the last barrel of beer that would be standing at the end of the festival, if there was more than one barrel we would do a draw for the £25 cash prize we offered. Fortunatly for us the beer ran dry about 10:30 on Saturday evening and the last pint was poured from barrel 29 "Nutty Slack" and Only one person guessed correctly, T Sear, congratulations.
Again huge thanks to all that supportted our little game. We will have the cars on show all through August, this Sunday 1st August at the Car Boot Sale on Linchfield Road. Then in the Market Place the following Sunday at the Deepings Raft Race, 8th August, hope to see you there, don't be shy come and have a chat.....

Overview

Mark "Big Show" Owen, Nic "Nobby" Coupland, Gary Hainsworth, Dan Hainsworth, Lee Coupland, Phil "Dr Who" Vaughan, Wayne Elliott and Phil Mills,
Eight rugby players from Deepings Rugby Union FC have come together to form two teams 'Subsido Tactus' & 'Exspecto Fides' to compete in the 2010 Sucata Run, a European charity banger rally tour from France to Portugal over August Bank Holiday (26th - 30th 2010).
Unlike other European banger rallies, 100% of the money teams raise goes directly to charity. Gemin-i brings together over 60,000 children in 114 countries to tackle the world’s biggest problems such as malaria, HIV/Aids, human rights and conflict resolution.

Mission

Picture
The challenge for the mighty eight will start when they leave Market Deeping on the 25th August making their way to across the Channel to France to join the start line in Normandy's capital, Rouen. Anything up to 50 cars then rattle their way through 2000km of the most gruelling continental roads to Europe's most westerly point, Cabo da Roca in Portugal. Through the trecherous roads of Bordeaux and the scorching desertscapes of Spain the two teams will (hopefully!) cross the finish line on the Portuguese coast on the Sunday evening. They then have to turn round and get back to Deeping, 3000 miles in cars costing no more than £250. And you thought we were doing this for fun.......

Why

Picture
The two teams from Deepings Rugby Union FC, 'Subsido Tactus' & 'Expecto Fides' are embarking on this gruelling challenge to raise money for the rugby club, more specifically the new clubhouse building, but also for Gemin-i, a UK-registered educational charity helping children around the world share ideas and work together for a brighter future www.gemin-i.org With the current financial woes we appreciate that it is difficult and a charity rally is far down peoples list of possible donations, but every little bit helps, even a pound...

"The repairs, renovations and customisation of the two vehicles is currently in progress, a little more work than was first anticipated maybe! We need to pass on big thanks to W.A. Pearce & Son for making a barn available to us to convert into workshop for us to use over the winter months, if anyone is able to provide anything else from old rags to wipe our dirty hands on, to accessories and parts then please get in touch....
